General Inspector of the Hellenic Coast Guard, Rear Admiral Kostarakis Dimitrios
The General Inspector of the Hellenic Coast Guard, Rear Admiral HCG Kostarakis Dimitrios, was born in Athens in 1972. He graduated from the School of Captains of the Merchant Marine Academy of Aspropyrgos. In 1995 he was accepted in the Hellenic Naval Academy (Coast Guard Officer’s Cadet School) from which he graduated in 1997, obtaining the rank of Ensign of the Hellenic Coast Guard.
Prior to assuming his current duties, he has served in Central and Regional Port Authorities as Captain on patrol boats in the Central Port Authorities of Mytilene and Lavrio. During the Olympic Games he served as Commander at the Vessel Traffic Service (V.T.S.) of Rafina.
He has served as Maritime Attaché in Sydney, Australia and as Harbor Master at the Port Authority of Mykonos in 2011-2012.
In December 2012, he was appointed Deputy Harbor Master at the Central Port Authority of Rafina, and in April 2017, he assumed the duties of Central Harbor Master.
Rear Admiral HCG Kostarakis Dimitrios, also served as Director for both the Fisheries Control Directorate and the Drugs and Contraband Enforcement Directorate. He also served as Assistant Director General to the General Directorate of Administrations and E-Government. In August 2020, he was appointed Commander of the 9th Regional Command of the Hellenic Coast Guard situated in Mytilini, until May 2022.
In March 2024 he received his commission as Rear Admiral HCG and assumed the duties of General Inspector of the Hellenic Coast Guard. He has attended a series of training courses and seminars in Greece and abroad on topics related to the Protection of the Marine Environment and the Marine Surveying Directorate in the framework of Paris MOU and holds the relevant Inspector's Certification. He holds all the medals, awards and insignia of his rank and position.
He is fluent in English.
He is married to Isidora Batri, and has two children, Ioannis and Philip.
