General Inspector of the Hellenic Coast Guard,
Rear Admiral Papakonstantinou Christos
Rear Admiral Papakonstantinou Christos was born in Athens in 1974.
After graduating from the Merchant Marine Academy of Hydra and serving on ocean-going vessels attaining the rank of Third-Class Master Marine, he was admitted to the Hellenic Naval Academy in 1997 and graduated in 1998 as Ensign of the Hellenic Coast Guard (H.C.G.).
Throughout his career, he has served in Central and Regional Services of the Hellenic Coast Guard.
He has served in various staff positions at the Hellenic Coast Guard Headquarters, including the Seafarer’s Labor Directorate, the Security Directorate, the Seafarer’s Training Directorate, the Joint Search and Rescue Coordination Center (J.R.C.C.) and, during the Migration Crisis, he served on the Counterintelligence Directorate of the Hellenic National Defence General Staff. Following the establishment of the four-year study Hellenic’s Coast Guard Cadet School, he was appointed as Director of Studies at the aforementioned school.
His operational experience includes service as a Captain on patrol vessels of the Hellenic Coast Guard (Eastern Aegean).
During the period 2023-2025, he served as a Maritime Attache at Port Said’s Consulate in Egypt.
On April 04, 2025, he was promoted to the rank of Rear Admiral H.C.G. and was appointed Inspector General of the H.C.G.
He has attended a series of specialized training courses and seminars in Greece and abroad, on subjects related to the International Safety Management Code (ISM), the STCW Convention, Counterterrorism, Information Management and Analysis, as well as Boarding Officer Procedures relating to Law Enforcement.
He has been awarded with all the medals, commendations and insignia of his rank.
He holds a Master's Degree in Shipping, Trade and Transport.
He speaks fluently English and French.
He is married to Chara Mitsopoulou and he is father of one son.
