The Hellenic Coast Guard is responsible for the implementation of national and international legislation pertinent to seafaring. In this regard, the Hellenic Coast Guard is the competent authority for:
- keeping records of all Greek seafarers
- issuing seaman’s books and certificates of service.
- monitoring the implementation of the legal requirements for safe manning of ships in accordance with national and international requirements
